Michael Darany

Since 1968, Michael A. Darany has helped individuals, families, private, public and non-profit companies attain greater financial stability. As a wealth manager and financial life planner, he proudly offers clients a comprehensive range of Financial & Tax services that elevate their financial goals to new levels. His credentials include CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, admission to the Registry of Financial Planning Practitioners, general securities and blue sky licenses, Enrolled Agent (EA) and nationwide licensing for life, health, disability and group insurance, including pension and profit sharing planning.

Michael’s financial planning philosophy is a rare blend of in-depth budget and portfolio analysis paired with ongoing, personalized review. His select, nationwide client base includes client relationships spanning 25 years or more, allowing him to navigate clients through milestones such as home purchases, saving for college tuition, retirement and more. His personal commitment is evident, as the adult children of his clients often seek him out for the success of their own financial futures.

In 1971, he formed Darany, Maligon & Associates, where he served as president for several years representing the Hartford as a general agency.

In 1974, Michael attained his commercial mortgage broker certification and integrated those services with his insurance expertise. Around that same time, Michael was asked to create the commercial and international lending division for D&R International, a domestic and international building and development company with offices in Miami and Chicago.

In 1981, he went back to the legal representatives of D&R International and attained the company for his new venture, The Consortium Group,  a comprehensive financial planning firm.  The firm offered an array of financial services including accounting and tax,  insurance, securities investments and business and estate planning. He personally oversaw, along with his 16 person staff, over 1,000 clients, 66 corporations and 55 partnership operations throughout the Southern United States. During this time, he developed a passion for helping individuals and businesses gain sound financial stability and attainted certification as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™.

In 1991, Michael launched his own boutique Financial Planning firm in Southern California called Michael A. Darany, and soon after, earned the Enrolled Agent (EA) designation to provide clients with an all-inclusive financial planning experience. In 2008, Michael’s financial planning and tax firm entered into a promising joint venture with GR Capital Asset Management, a Registered Investment Advisor with offices in Newport Beach and Montecito.

Michael’s passion for what he does exceeds beyond an office setting. In 1991, he became one of the first approved providers for California continued education programs in the insurance industry and lectured extensively throughout California on various topics from estate planning to proper use of insurance in business and life insurance laws.  He has been a contributing author and is often quoted in city newspapers and trade journals, including The New York Times Sunday Special Section on financial planning. Also, at the invitation of the Orange County Register, Michael volunteers his time for the publication’s annual tax help line and annual financial planning event.

Active in the community, he is a member of the Enrolled Agent Society of Orange County, member and past board member of the Financial Planner’s Association of Orange County, member of the Certified Financial Planner’s International Board of Standards, past Vice President and Tax Advisor to the Technical Professional Association of Southern California (Orange County chapter) and Advisory Board member of the Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo.

Michael takes his role as a trustworthy financial guide very seriously. He maintains his licenses, registrations and certifications through annual continuing education, by participating in financial planning, enrolled agent and security industry meetings, regional and national conferences and through personal daily research of industry trends. More than just an advisor, Michael prides himself on being a trusted friend whose passion is to bring clients protection, savings and growth for a lifetime.
